Community Pre-VOC / THRIVE
Program Description
THRIVE is CVES-RISE Center for Success’ OPWDD Community Pre-Vocational program designed to help adults with developmental disabilities build the skills, experiences, and confidence needed to move toward their individual employment goals and greater independence in the community.
Located on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus in Sibley Hall, THRIVE provides a unique community-based setting where participants can develop vocational skills while accessing real-world learning opportunities throughout the greater Plattsburgh community.
Programming is person-centered and employment-focused, with activities based on each individual’s interests, strengths, needs, and goals identified through their Life Plan. The program emphasizes learning through hands-on experiences rather than traditional classroom-based instruction.
Participants may work on areas such as:
-
-
- Career exploration and identifying employment interests
- Workplace readiness and professional behavior
- Community-based vocational experiences
- Volunteer and work-based learning opportunities
- Communication and interpersonal skills
- Teamwork and problem-solving
- Time management, organization, and task completion
- Self-advocacy and decision-making
- Travel, transportation, and community navigation
- Money management and other employment-related life skills
-
Through repeated practice in real workplaces and community environments, participants have opportunities to discover what types of work they enjoy, identify their strengths, develop greater independence, and build skills that can support future employment.
